This Midcentury Modern Kitchen Renovation is a Not-to-Miss!

When our dear friends in Chicago asked us to help them with their renovation, it was a big yes. But it was an even bigger yes when they told us that the house was a 1956 ranch and they wanted to actually bring back the midcentury aesthetic in an authentic way.

Needless to say this midcentury modern kitchen renovation is a not to miss, as shown in the incredible before and after transformation.

Before...

Annndd After!

Can you get over this? Yeah, we can't either. We love our jobs. And this project was extra special because when the client said midcentury modern, they meant it. The knew the era and leaned in with us during the design process.

First things first, let's shout out the team behind the scenes.

Architect - Woodhouse Tinucci Architects, The design they led for the entire house, not just the kitchen, was on point, functional and extremely creative.

Millworker - Grace Taylor Designs. The craftsmanship involved with these cabinets and drawers was a level 10.

Tile Installation - Home Dream Group. The design is in the details, my friends. I can't tell you how many times I see a project that is absolutely beautiful but the execution of the details is lacking. Well, not here.

Without question, a renovation is only as successful as the strength of each team member and in this case, we had a dream team and we are so grateful to have been able to work in collaboration with everyone, including the client.

Speaking of tile, one thing we loved about this kitchen was the horizontal installation of this elongated white hexagon backsplash. Hexagon errs modern as a shape overall and worked so well as we paid homage to a midcentury aesthetic. Adding the black grout gave this backsplash a more pronounced look, balancing the warmth throughout the kitchen.

And, for all the moms in the house - can we talk about this oversized custom pantry? Almost every single client requests this as part of the design and for this client who has 3 young daughters, it was a staple!
