Project Reveal // Our Chicago Single Family Home

Our last project reveal of the year is here!

This gorgeous Chicago Single Family Home is owned by my best friend of over 20 years so needless to say, this one is special. The house was only a few years old when they bought it so it didn’t need any major remodeling so we got to do the best part - decorate!

15 years ago, Eileen was one of the friends who said yes to me when I wanted to design homes for free just to get the experience. From her studio on Michigan avenue in Chicago to her first home with her husband and this latest project, she believed in me from day one, making this project that much more meaningful.

As always, we had our work cut out for us. We were challenged with different styles from Eileen and her husband, we needed to make the home personal but doing it in a refined way and last, KID-FRIENDLY WAS A MUST!

A few ways we were able to succeed at these challenges were:

✔️ Creating a personal travel gallery wall in the family room. We curated photos that the clients had taken in their travels around the world, framed them and used 4" wooden shelves to hang. This idea was inspired by Eileen's husband and given all of the incredible places they traveled, it was a no brainer to execute this gallery wall!

✔️ Kid friendly is always one of our key design challenges and one way we succeeded here was to design a custom banquette in the kitchen. This offered the family a more a more casual dining experience and it turns out this is where the majority of the meals the family has now take place! Banquettes will always win!

✔️ The design style has always been fundamentally transitional with a touch of contemporary modern. We peppered in some traditional pieces but we wanted to stay true to the architecture of the home and of course, the family's aesthetic.

✔️ Statement Art: A statement piece of art that was oversized, bold and energetic created a beautiful moment in the dining room, giving the home a touch of modern to layer into some of the more transitional design layers we created.

✔️ Oh yes, I almost forget to mention that we worked with 12” tall ceilings. What a challenge huh?

✔️ Upstairs we tackled the master bedroom, creating a sanctuary and still capitalizing on the travel theme with an urban touch (gotta love a class Gray Malin!). And we held true to adding a personal touch here as well by way of styling with personal pictures and books that had significance for the client.

One by one we focused on different spaces, prioritizing the clients lifestyle, and it has been a blast to watch it come together and come to life. What an honor to have been chosen for this project!
