How We Designed a Luxury Private Jet Aviation Lounge in St. Maarten

Some projects start with a blank wall. This one started with a blank room, 350 square feet, and a big idea: to design a luxury private aviation lounge that feels nothing like a waiting room.

When we partnered with this luxury aviation company on their private suite in St. Maarten, we knew we weren't designing a home. We were designing a moment, the 15 to 20 minutes between one adventure and the next. A guest lands, gathers their luggage, and waits while the team arranges their next leg, whether that's a yacht, a helicopter, or a transfer to St. Barths. Our job was to make that pause feel just as special as wherever they're headed.

Designing for A Luxury Private Jet Aviation Lounge Real Life, Not Just Real Estate

Before we picked a single finish, we did our homework. We studied the brand, the clientele, and exactly how the space would be lived in, not just looked at. What we learned shaped everything: most guests arrive in full vacation mode, sunscreen and beach bags in tow, fresh off a flight and ready for the next one. So the lounge needed to do double duty. It had to feel elevated and luxurious, but also durable enough to withstand real island life.

That's the difference between commercial and residential design. A home can ask guests to slow down.

A 20 minute aviation lounge has to work fast. Every choice, from traffic flow to fabric, had to earn its place.

The Wallcovering That Changed Everything

If you want to know the moment this project found its soul, it's the wallcovering.

Our client was nervous about it at first. Wrapping a small room entirely in pattern felt like a risk. But we saw what it could become: a colorful, tropical jewel box that turns heads the second the door opens. Paired with brass detailing, a custom wood logo sign, and six photography pieces sourced from a local

St. Maarten photographer, the room stopped feeling like a waiting area and started telling a story, one that's unmistakably tied to the islands.

It's a good reminder that the boldest choice is often the one most worth defending. We believed in the vision, we listened to the client's concerns, and we built the rest of the space to support that one brave decision. No ego required, just a little trust on both sides.

Private Jet Luxury That Still Feels Like You

Commercial brands can sometimes feel cold under the weight of their own polish. We didn't want that here. The goal was a space that said two things at once: you're in good hands, and welcome to the islands.

So alongside the brand's signature refinement, we layered in warmth: tailored furniture, tropical texture, and color that feels sun-soaked rather than sterile. The branding is woven into the design instead of slapped on top of it, which is exactly how it should feel.

A Small Space, A Big Win

When the client walked into the finished lounge, the transformation spoke for itself. What used to be a basic holding room is now memorable, branded, and full of personality, the kind of space their team is proud to welcome guests into every single day.

This project pushed us into new territory in more ways than one. It was our first international project, our first time shipping product to an island, and our first time bringing our own labor team abroad for installation. New challenges all around, and one of our favorites yet.

What we're most proud of is simple: you don't need a massive footprint to create a massive impression.

The Takeaway

Good design isn't only about square footage. It's about thinking through an entire experience, down to what a guest smells, hears, and feels the moment they walk through the door. For us, this project was a reminder that every detail counts, and that with the right concept and a little courage, even the smallest room can feel transportive.
