Modern kitchen with wood cabinets, blue island, and green stools. White and orange patterned backsplash, gold fixtures, and bright, airy feel by Studio 790 Interior Design.

At Studio 790, we love when clients invite us to lean into bold ideas and this project was exactly that. Our client, an art enthusiast with a passion for vibrant color and mid-century design, came to us wanting a kitchen and bathrooms that reflected her personality: joyful, expressive, yet timeless enough to grow with her.

The result? A space we’ve nicknamed The Chromatic Casa, a home where color and creativity take center stage.

A Colorful Kitchen Remodel That Dares to Be Bold

Every great design begins with a “before.” This kitchen started out dated and lacking the personality our client wanted to see reflected in her home. With her love of art, bold color, and mid-century style guiding the way, we reimagined the space into something joyful, expressive, and completely custom.

Two kitchen designs: Left with dark wood cabinets, ceiling fan. Right with bright, modern decor, yellow chairs, and city view.

We started by grounding the design with walnut cabinetry. The warm wood tones add natural texture and soften the more playful design elements. To balance mid-century references with modern sensibilities, we incorporated sleek lines, curved hardware, and a mix of timeless finishes.

The star of the show? The cobalt blue island. Rich, saturated, and unapologetically bold, it anchors the space and sets the tone for the rest of the palette. To keep the mood playful, we paired it with mint green barstools, for a fun pop of color that still feels intentional and curated.

Just behind the island, the backsplash introduces sunburst-patterned tiles in ochre and gray. Graphic yet subtle, it creates movement while tying the palette together. The design continues into the adjacent breakfast nook, where cheerful golden yellow chairs extend the color story, adding warmth and whimsy.

Every detail was considered to create a cohesive yet dynamic space. Open shelving displays curated ceramics and greenery for a lived-in, personal touch. Terrazzo-style floors ground the palette with texture and nod to classic mid-century materials. And brass lighting fixtures provide a polished finish that elevates the playful design.

This isn’t just a kitchen. It’s a reflection of the homeowner’s bold, artistic spirit a room that feels alive, functional, and authentically hers.

Bathrooms That Balance Play and Polish

Just like the kitchen, both bathrooms in this home started from simple beginnings. Our client wanted spaces that carried the same bold, artistic energy as the kitchen while still feeling serene and functional. The result? Two bathrooms that tell their own stories but remain connected through color, pattern, and detail.

Before, this bathroom felt flat and uninspired a far cry from the joyful, art-driven look our client envisioned.

But just look at this transformation.

Two bathroom designs. Left: small, beige tiles, shower, toilet, bidet. Right: modern with pink herringbone tiles, blue vanity, floral floor by Studio 790 Interior Design.

This bathroom makes a statement with blush-pink herringbone tile in the shower, playful yet polished. On the floor, sunburst-patterned tiles echo the motif from the kitchen backsplash, tying the spaces together without being repetitive. To ground all that vibrancy, we added a navy vanity with sleek brass hardware, topped with a simple brass mirror and glass globe sconces. The effect is cheerful, graphic, and full of personality.

The second bathroom also had a dated start, lacking warmth and dimension. But truly this transformation is one for the books.

Before and after bathroom renovation: Left shows a cluttered, dark vanity. Right shows a bright, modern vanity with plants and gold accents by Studio 790 Interior Design.

We leaned into a slightly different palette while keeping the mid-century spirit alive. A warm wood vanity with brass details brings organic texture and richness to the space. The shower is lined with white hexagonal tile, subtle and timeless, while the floor introduces teal geometric tiles for a playful twist.

The brass-framed mirror and lighting tie everything together, balancing warmth and modern polish.

Together, these two bathrooms highlight how color and pattern can be used in distinct yet complementary ways. One feels vibrant and lively, the other grounded and geometric both unified by thoughtful details that reflect our client’s artistic, joyful personality.

Final Thoughts

At Studio 790, we believe great design should spark joy every day. This project is proof that timeless doesn’t have to mean neutral with the right balance, bold design can be both expressive and enduring.
