Creating a Miami Outdoor Oasis: Ann Lopez's Black and White Checkered Pool Design
Transforming my Miami outdoor abode into this resort-inspired space has been a dream come true, and I'm thrilled to share the journey with you. I have saved and prayed for this for nearly a decade so the fact that I get to show you this and create more core memories at home is truly a miracle in motion!
As the owner of Studio 790 Interior Design, I wanted to create a pool and outdoor area that was practical, functional, beautiful and had the relaxed charm of a resort - the same lens we use for all of our projects. The Miami weather can be rough so I had to choose products that were going to last but also, fit the aesthetic bill, of course! With the Italian Riviera as my muse (naturally), I knew exactly how to bring this vision to life!

Welcome to the World of Italian Tropical Noir
This exterior transformation in the heart of Miami sets the scene for magical memories and
Instagram-worthy moments (can we say resort staycation?!). This bold yet classic tropical vision
paired with light coastal features is inspired by 1950s Italian beach vibes without having to buy a
plane ticket or pack a bag.
This design concept is meant to reflect the dynamic personality and history of Studio 790and
Miami while also incorporating the relaxed and serene atmosphere of the Italian coast (which
happens to be part of Ann’s background). The use of bold black tile, tropical elements, and light
coastal features are all chosen to create a cohesive and inviting space that feels fresh and modern,while also paying homage to the unique environment and culture of Miami.
Alas, raise a spritz and dip yourself in the bespoke Italian Tropical Noir atmosphere!
Partnering with Wayfair Professional for Perfect Furnishings
To bring this vision to life, we partnered with Wayfair Professional, whose wide range of high-quality furnishings perfectly complemented our design! The key pieces that made this space truly special include:
Chase Loungers: These loungers provide a comfortable and stylish place to relax by the pool. Their sleek design and weather-resistant materials make them ideal for Miami's climate.
Yellow Umbrellas: The yellow umbrellas not only provide much-needed shade but also add a pop of color that ties in beautifully with the cabana stripes.
Cabana Striped Chairs: Speaking of cabana stripes, these lounge chairs are not only perfect for the space but are super high quality and comfortable, perfect for the little cigar lounge area we wanted!
Sofa and Chair Patio Set: You guys. I was apprehensive about this set but I have to say, it exceeded my expectations. The price is insane. I love that it's neutral so will go with everything. And it's comfortable.
Unique Side Tables: Carefully chosen side tables add functionality and a touch of whimsy. They are perfect for holding drinks, books, or décor.
Pillows: Accentuating the loungers, the pillows bring in extra comfort and a splash of coordinated colors that enhance the overall aesthetic.

Creating a Resort-Inspired Oasis at Home - YOU CAN DO THIS TOO!
One of my goals with this project is to show that anyone can transform their outdoor space into a personal paradise. Whether you're inspired by the Italian Riviera or have your unique vision, with the right design elements and accessible and functional furnishings, you can create a space that feels like a vacation every day.
The entire project was designed to create a resort-inspired oasis, making it possible to enjoy what feels like a getaway without ever leaving home. The black and white checkered pool tiles provide a bold and timeless look (give us all the checkered everything please), while the complementary furnishings create a cohesive and inviting atmosphere. The yellow accents, inspired by the classic cabana stripes, add warmth and a touch of nostalgia.
